Lets discuss “so,- & too” together as it confuses us the most.

So and too are the intensifiers and adverb.Any person, place is generally described with adjectives, beautiful, peaceful etc.

The adverbs are used to intensify these adjectives.Intensify means strength, greater or more intense.
‘So’ is used like very or extremely.Its another way of saying to a great degree.

Hawaii is so beautiful! It’s so peaceful, but it’s so far & so expensive.

‘Too’ has the opposite meaning.Too means much more than needed or more than enough.

‘Too’ is a negative expression eg.I love Hawaii but it’s ‘too’far & ‘too’ expensive.

There are various uses of ‘So’-

1) Used before an adjective or adverb.
So + adjective / adverb( no noun)
-She is so skinny.
-Don’t be so naive.

2) ‘So’ cannot be used before an adjective + Noun.
Eg.She is so a beautiful woman.
Here,before Noun use such. Also the article ‘an’goes before the adjective.
Such + adjective + Noun
Eg. He is such a great singer.
We had such a great day today.

3) So many and So much when its a stronger way of saying a lot.

a)With an uncountable noun use ‘so much’.
So much + uncountable noun.
Eg. I have so much studying to do before the test tomorrow.
-There is so much work to be done before the house is clean.
b) With a plural noun use ‘so many’
So many + plural noun
Eg.I have never seen so many people in one place.

4) Special sentence structure with ‘so’.

So + adjective + that clause
This sentence structure is used to talk about a result occurs because of –
So+ adjective.
Eg.The children were so quiet that i didn’t know that they were in the room.
‘Adverbs’ can also be used in this sentence structure.
She ran ‘so fast’ she won the race.

‘TOO’ like so, too is used

1)before an adjective or adverb with no noun
Too + adjective / adverb.
Eg.We don’t see her very often. She lives too far away.
-He drives too fast.

2) ‘too’ can be used in a negative statement
Eg.you are too funny.

3) Sometimes the intensifier way, for or must can be added in front of ‘too’.
Eg.These pants are way too big for me.
– She is far too young to wear that outfit.

4) Too much & Too many have a similar meaning –
With an uncountable noun use ‘too much ‘
Too much +uncountable noun
Eg.I feel sick, i drank too much alcohol.

5) With a plural noun use ‘too many ‘
Too many + plural noun
Eg.Is it possible to have too many friends?

6)too used with adjective+infinity & to explain why someone can’t do anything.
Eg.I am too tired to do a work.
– I had too much work to do today.

7) too used with adjective + for something.
Too + adjevtive + for something
Eg.This box is too heavy for me to carry.
