COLLOCATIONS with IN – IELTS (II)
- In future – I am not sure what she may do in future as she has always procrastinated every important action so far.
- In good/bad condition – The room is not in a good condition, so firstly, please clean it and then spread some room freshener. (b) Who is responsible for the bad condition of our society?
- In jeopardy – in danger. Example: If you don’t stop doing wrong, then God may put you in some jeopardy.
- In love with – strong attraction and liking for. Example: I am in love with the way she dances.
- In recognition of – to show formal appreciation. Example: He was given a Nobel Prize for Peace in recognition of the work he had done.
- In the balance – uncertain/at risk. Example: She is unable to cope with the harsh realities of life, her life in the balance.
- In the early stages – something that has recently happened/started. Example: She can be cured as her Cancer has been diagnosed in the early stages.
- In time – not late. Example: The concert will start at sharp 6pm so please be there in time.
- In trouble – in some difficulty. Example: The table has turned. When they were powerful they kept putting me in trouble and now when I am more powerful than them, then I can also either put them in trouble or forgive them.
- In trouble with – in difficulties with someone. Example: She is in trouble with her manager as she refused to do overtime.
- In turn – one after the other. Example: They tormented the poor soul in turn to pacify their ego. (b) Because of that. Example: Mr. Singh bribed an MLA and in turn got some favours from him.
- Engrossed in something – occupied/involved in something. Example: He was so engrossed in playing games on his mobile that he didn’t pay attention to what his friend was telling him.
- Confide in someone – to share one’s secrets with someone. Example: Anisha always confides in her best friend Shivam as she knows that he will never betray him.
- Result in something – the reason for something. Example: Right choices always result in happiness.
- Succeed in doing something – to get success in something. Example: They all are so happy as they have succeeded in their plans.
